CSS Tutorial - Chapter 1: Preparations

Before starting in on your journey into the wonderful world of Cascading Style Sheets, there are a few things you should make sure you know first in order to make your trip less frustrating. They are essentially the same as in my preparations for the XHTML tutorial. In short, you should:

  • Be able to work with text files in a text editor
  • Know how to view the pages you create in a browser
  • Know how to work with graphics

For a detailed description, click the link above. I will say that having at least a moderate level of knowledge in how to create your own graphics is going to be more or less necessary, not perhaps for completing this tutorial but for anyone who is wanting to work with CSS in a more serious way.

Oh, and one more thing, it's absolutely imperative that you also know how to read and write basic HTML / XHTML, because I won't be explaining anything at all about how HTML "works" in this tutorial. I'll assume you know the basic HTML tags and how to work with them, and will more or less exclusively deal with how to introduce CSS to the pages.

If you don't already know the basics in web coding, I would recommend that you check out my XHTML tutorial first. Once you've got that down, click the lower right link to get started on CSS!
