Webdesign Glossary - Java

Java is an object-oriented programming language partly based on C and C++, developed by Sun Microsystems. On the web, Java is used to write "applets" which are small independant "programs" that can be linked in and ran on a web page, much like with Flash.

Note: Do not confuse Java with the much simpler scripting language JavaScript.
