Webdesign Glossary - Flash

Flash has become very popular on the web for developing online games as well as building interactive web sites often rich in streaming audio/video media and animated content. Flash applications are linked in and ran on web pages in plugin-style just like with Java. In fact, even though they are different they can in many ways be said to be two sides of the same coin.

While Flash is easier to get started with and has more features for creating graphics and animations, Java is a more powerful language than the fairly simple ActionScript of Flash, and better suited for creating technically complex applications but at the same time often requiring a significantly larger amount of both knowledge, experience and development time.
